River Bay, which is located in the Parish of St Lucy and is on the north coast of Barbados, is a wonderful place to visit, it is a true beauty spot that you will want to visit time and time again.
At the weekend River Bay is usually rammed with locals picnicking and it is a hive of activity, but during the week it is a much quieter place and for me this is when you can truly appreciate the dramatic coastline and the powerful waves crashing against the cliffs.
A freshwater river runs down to the sea at River Bay and as you guess where the name came from.

I loved this interesting old sailing boat that I came across at the Careenage in Bridgetown in Barbados. It was maybe an old boat, but it was obviously lovingly looked after and maintained by the owner.
I could just imagine myself sailing on that old boat on the Caribbean Sea, drinking a few ice-cold lagers and having the occasional dip in the inviting blue waters. One of these days, it you don’t have the dream how can it come true!

This swamp like area within the Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary reminded me on the classic movie starring Burt Reynolds and Jon Voigt called, “Deliverance”. I don’t know if there was any red neck inbred hillbillies living in those swamps, I for one wasn’t going to hang around to find out!

I feel that I should feature another picture from the Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary, so that the world can appreciate the natural beauty of the place. I for one hope that the people of Barbados put up a fight to make sure the place become the centre piece of a superb national park for the country.

I took this picture at Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary on Sunday, which was when they opened the doors to the centre for the public for free. I had been before, just a little over a year ago when I held my marquee wedding reception at the place. Unfortunately this visit wasn’t such a happy one because in a matter of a few weeks they are planning on closing the Sanctuary for good, Is It Really the End of Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary In Barbados.
However there are plans afoot to expand Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary and turn it into a 240-acre National Park, but these plans may never come to fruition unless the Government of Barbados backs the plans. Hopefully David Thomson is a man of vision and can see the monumental national importance of making sure that the Graeme Hall National Park comes to life.
A national park such as Graeme Hall would be a fantastic place for families in Barbados to spend quality time together away from the hustle and bustle of there normal day to day life’s.
