Black and White Picture of Harrismith Hotel

March 3rd, 2009

I have always loved visiting old ruined buildings ever since I was a little kid, even as an adult I get a real buzz whenever I get the opportunity to visit an old ruined Scottish castle or a grand old mansion house.

Harrismith Hotel here in Barbados, which once upon a time was an extremely grand building and even though it is now an old ruin you can tell it was once something special. I took this picture from the rear of the building, which as you can see it is being  taken by nature.

I hope that one day someone will have the foresight and of course pots of money to help  restore this building and bring it back to its former glory.

Harrismith House, Whatever Happened to you?

August 28th, 2008

I cant resist the lure of taking pictures of old ruined building’s, such as this once grand looking former hotel in Barbados, which was once upon a time called Harrismith Hotel. It was obviously at some point in its history a very grand hotel, which has somehow fallen in to disrepair. Why and when it went out of business is a mystery to me.

Known locally as Harrismith House, it is in a fantastic location, only 1 minute’s walk down a flight of stone steps to a beautiful and virtually always deserted beach overlooking the Atlantic Ocean called Harrismith Beach.

I wrote about my trip to Harrismith Beach, which can be found at The Barbados Blog and can be found here Harrismith Beach, I Felt like a Castaway!

Harrismith Beach, which is located in the Parish of St Phillip in Barbados, is a fantastic beach. It is one of those beaches where if you are looking for some peace and quiet, just listening to the waves of the Atlantic Ocean crashing into the shore, this is the place for you.
